If you got such a problem living in a "conquered nation" within the USA...please move...somewhere preferably like Venzeuela or Russia...so you can learn to appreciate what it is to live here...And remember, at one point your ancestors didn't live here either...pitiful.

Never said it was a bad thing to live here. At least we still have some semblance of freedom. My point was that even the USA has done shameful things, and so many people out there don't want to hear that.. they believe that the USA can do no wrong. Absurd.

Wow
Just wow
So, because some racists in the South say that the history books are written about a corrupt North, we are to believe them?
Sorry there are 3 sides to every story, in this one, there is the Northern view, the Southern view and the truth, which is probably closer to the Northern view IMO. Why is it closer to the Nothern view? Because more of the people in the North that told the history, were educated (many educated in Southern states, so don't try to say that it was a corrupt Northern education system). Most of the Southern were uneducated. The North did many of the things you accuse the South of doing, absolutely. So the Southern people did nothing and waved howdy at the Northern? Heck no, the South was doing the same thing back to the North.
Nothing wrong with being proud of a Confederate lifestyle. Nothing wrong with having the Stars and Bars. Its part of our history and has as much right being shown as does wearing a shirt that says Malcolm X.
Were they idiots who went to far in the Confederate States? Absolutely, sorry the KK-K was stupid as was the Black Panters.
[/ QUOTE ]
This has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. You mean to tell me that just because some people in the North were educated then that makes their cause right and their history books honest? LMAO..
And as for the "South was doing the same thing back to the North." ... Tell me one example of a Confederate Army burning a 90 mile wide stretch all the way across a state? Not to mention that this was done with the approval of the Lincoln government. You can't find it, because it did not happen. I'm not saying that some Southerners did not commit unacceptable acts.. these things happen in war. But the problem is that when the Union Army did them, they had the approval and blessing of their govt.
Also BTW, the K-K-K did not exist in the Confederacy.
It only arose after the Yankee invader had imposed martial law on it's reconquered provinces.

You seem to suffer from an extreme case of verbal diarrhea. if you can't do anything besides spout profanity and insults to people who you don't even know, then I can't understand why you've not been banned from this board. Hmmm...
Re: Va apologizes for slavery...
I find a lot of wrong with the government. But, I find my own opinions based on my own conceived notion of what is wrong or what is right. I don't believe in affirmative action; but, at the same time I also disagree with the war in Iraq. I have since the beginning of it. But, just because I disagree with a war doesn't mean I don't care about the soldiers. I am tolerant to a point, but there are some things I am totally against. But, it's not extreme..it's tempered with moderateness. Blind extremism is dangerous. The manifestation of what it breeds is seen in the exremism found in Iraq. It is destructive.
Re: Va apologizes for slavery...
I have a lot more knowledge of people from Pound than you can imagine. You've not overstated your ignorance like your [censored] girlfriend has. So, I apologize for bringing you into this. That was wrong of me to include you in my blitzkrieg but she's fair game.
Re: Va apologizes for slavery...
and i would guess that you're one of the ones who thinks CNN has a huge liberal slant...notice Nancy Grace on the list? i hate that woman
Re: Va apologizes for slavery...
Guys, I'm going to go out on a limb here and try to speak for what I think is best, but all I can say is that this isn't going anywhere and we're just stuck in the same cycle of insults and profanity back and forth.
I understand that this is quite a "touchy" issue, but when you bring someone else's education and personal life into the picture and begin to point out those things and laugh about them when there are numerous people on this board, I think it has gone a little too far. Now don't get me wrong, I know it's just as bad to go out and say that you're proud to be racist, but come on - let's at least try to have a little respect and decency about ourselves.
This thread either needs to be closed or a moderator needs to do something, because it has gotten way out of hand as far as I'm concerned. It's no longer about Virginia apologizing for slavery - it's now about slinging insults back and forth because there are two opposing views of racism colliding at full force.
I know that I'm probably going to be chewed out because of this message, but to be honest I don't really care. I just wish this nonsense would stop and a "to each his own" agreement could be reached. Obviously, nobody here is going to change the way anyone else thinks. I've learned that far too many times. Arguing back and forth like this isn't going to make things any better or any more in favor of your viewpoint - I'm speaking to everyone participating in this feud. It's just ignorant and uncalled for.
Someone has to speak out, and it's about time this comes to an end. Surely someone else can step up to the plate and agree with me on this.

I agree, it's getting way to personal between posters, good post.

The U.S. also apologized to the Native Americans for stealing their land
[/ QUOTE ]
I laugh everytime I hear the Slavery excuse from blacks. They think they had it bad. I guess some did but if not for slavery they would still be in Africa and some living in very harsh conditions. It seems no one ever thinks of the Native Americans and what our ancestors went through. The Trail of Tears come to mind. Why is it that schools dont teach much Native American history? All I was taught in school was about black history. Martin Luther King is held as an all American symbol. But does anyone know a thing about Sequoyah and what he did? How about Chief Joseph?
[/ QUOTE ]While I'm 90% conservative and do not under any circumstances agree with slavery, you're right. If that were me, I'd rather be a slave in America than still be in some place in Tanzania avoiding a lion or in South AFrica with the AIDs epidemic going on.
And yeah, the Natives really get the shaft in a year more than the Blacks have had in 140+ years.
It seems like I learned somewhere that Adolf HItler got his ideas of how to kill Jews from the Americans on how they treated (and still do) the natives.
I'd much rather be a slave in the 1800s than be executed at a Nazi death camp in the 1940s.
On my way back to Berea on a Greyhound bus tonight I was sitting in front of a couple of black people and one was complaining about a hotel not having BET on the TVs in the rooms sayin "yeah we black people be needin' dat entertainment", giving the black people even more of the stereotype of wanting to be bowed down to. NOw really, I have nothing against blacks, but I hate the attitudes of some of them. We get that black people were once oppressed and that there is still racism. That isn't going to stop it. And this isn't news but there's at least one group I know of in US History that got the shaft, has been getting the shaft, and still gets the shaft ever since the beginning of the US. Which group is that? The Natives.
Acknowledging the oppression of blacks, at least, was a good thing. Affirmative action, constantly giving blacks their way, etc. is going way too far. Hire people because they are qualified; not because their ancestors were slaves on a plantation.
